Eric Taylor - Stark Campus

Hi. Eric Taylor here. Let me introduce myself in case you do not know me. I have been with 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ since 2012 shortly after finishing my doctoral program at The Ohio State University studying biophysical interactions between lung proteins and asbestos minerals. I come from Utah and unashamedly make references to rocks and national parks there in my classes! Here at KSU, I teach introductory courses and some upper-division courses for the geology major at the Stark campus, such as Earth Materials and Water and the Environment. I value my time here and enjoy teaching and working alongside our students. We continue to enjoy meaningful classroom discussions, engaging activities and labs and fun field trips.

The Earth Materials (2024 class) took a field trip to North Carolina to view metamorphic rocks.

In addition to North Carolina, students in Earth Materials have enjoyed an elective additional field trip to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History for a behind-the-scenes look at the mineral collections with Travis Olds and Debra Wilson.

These past couple of years I have been facilitating regional campus Belonging Champions Communities of Transformation in my role as Faculty Affiliate with the Center for Teaching and Learning to support student success and engagement in and out of class.  Faculty gather once a week remotely to learn about, discuss and model various teaching practices that support accessibility, social connection, self-efficacy and many other learning conditions. This past summer I attended a week-long workshop on Sensemaking with regional campus faculty at Miami University.  This was a transformative experience which taught me great skills to employ in and out of the classroom.
